Andean Group - September 2019


Colombia’s right-wing President Iván Duque and the ruling Centro Democrático (CD) marked one year in office on 7 August. In this September edition of Latin American Regional Report: Andean Group we begin by reviewing his first year, with a focus on the economy. Later, we examine the 29 August announcement in Colombia by Luciano Marín Arango (‘Iván Márquez’) that he and other leaders of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) were rejecting the peace agreement and resuming an armed struggle against the government. This may, or may not, change the dynamics of the country’s armed groups.
