REGION: Official reports lack up-to-date hard data

The US government and the UN's International Narcotics Control Board have issued their most recent annual reports, which have a disquieting feature in common: the absence of up-to-date information on drug crops and production at a time when strong signs of a new 'balloon effect' is calling into question the efficacy of the all-out eradication policies applied in Colombia, Bolivia has ditched its 'zero coca' policy and Peru is under increasing pressure to review its eradication programme.
