COLOMBIA - US: Paramilitary & business: the Chiquita case

For the first time a US company, the banana giant Chiquita Brands International, is being fined in its home country for having made secret payments to Colombia's umbrella paramilitary organisation, the AUC. This case, described as groundbreaking in the US and Colombia, leaves unanswered two questions: whether individual executives will be prosecuted (as US prosecutors say is possible), and whether Bogotá will file for their extradition to be tried in Colombia (as Colombian authorities have said is also possible).
