Argentina deepens defence ties with China

Argentina has been cooperating closely with the US on the security front, for example pursuing coordinated efforts to fight arms trafficking [SSR-19-08] and following the US’s lead by listing Hezbollah a terrorist organisation [SSR-19-09]. This has not, however, prevented President Mauricio Macri’s government from also exploring bilateral defence strategies with China, as exemplified by a recent meeting between Argentina’s Defence Minister Oscar Aguad and his Chinese counterpart, general Wei Fenghe.
