* Cuba’s President
Miguel Díaz-Canel and his predecessor,
Raúl Castro (2008-218), have inaugurated a new luxury hotel in Paseo del Prado. Located in the historic old Havana, the SO/Paseo del Prado La Habana hotel was built by French multinational hospitality company Accor. The construction of this hotel marks the third five-star luxury hotel built in the country’s capital in the last three years. With the construction of these hotels, Cuba hopes to boost its tourism industry. According to the country’s national statistics and information office (Onei), in 2018 Cuba saw close to 29m overnight stays by international tourists in its hotels, a decrease from the nearly 33m who stayed overnight in 2017.
