The Dominican superior electoral tribunal (TSE) ruled on 18 November that there were no legal or constitutional impediments to former president Leonel Fernández (1996-2000; 2004-2012) standing as a presidential candidate in May 2020. This is an important victory for Fernández, but it is not yet definitive as the ruling Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) is also challenging his candidacy before the constitutional tribunal (TC).
