Another major decision taken by López Obrador before he was sworn into office was the future of the Mexico City’s New International Airport (NAIM), which was under construction in Texcoco (Mexico state). He campaigned against it, arguing that it was extremely expensive and plagued by corruption, and said that instead the military facility in Santa Lucia, alongside the Toluca Airport (both in Mexico state) could be used with the existing airport in Mexico City to increase capacity, despite specialists’ views that having several airports is not feasible.
