Champion of the poor

López Obrador has portrayed himself as the champion of the poor. Indeed, the PND specifies a target of reducing the number of people living below the poverty line by 25 million. As such, his administration has prioritised social policies that seek to improve living conditions of the most vulnerable, such as the elderly and the disabled. People in rural areas, particularly subsistence farmers and indigenous peoples, are also considered priority sectors.
