Boost for Bukele in Asia. President Nayib Bukele conducted a foreign trip to Japan and China this week to drum up foreign investment in the country. After a meeting with Bukele in Tokyo on 29 November, Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzō Abe promised to deepen cooperation in the development of logistical infrastructure and industrial promotion in El Salvador, while expanding economic, political, and cultural ties. Bukele, for his part, said that his government would use its position as pro tempore president of the Central American Integration System (Sica) to “promote Japan’s participation in the Caribbean”.
