Uruguay’s President Tabaré Vázquez invited president-elect Luis Lacalle Pou to travel with him on the presidential plane to attend the investiture of Argentina’s Alberto Fernández on 10 December. This symbolic gesture was eye-catching because putting the national interest over partisan interests after hotly contested elections has become less and less common in the region.
