* Brazil’s President
Jair Bolsonaro has said that
“all options are on the table” with regards to the possible re-creation of a financial transactions tax, along the lines of the now extinguished and hugely unpopular Contribução Provisória sobre Movimentações Financeiras (CPMF).
Bolsonaro had previously discarded the possibility of re-introducing such a tax. He has noted however that he will not create new taxes without first extinguishing others and will take into account public opinion before pushing forward with such measures. A tax reform is expected to be one of the government’s next proposed package of reforms. Bolsonaro said he has instructed Economy Minister
Paulo Guedes to focus on the simplification of federal taxes.
