* Mexico’s President
Andrés Manuel López Obrador has forecast a return to economic growth in 2020, adding that there were “
favourable signs”. In November, Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) revealed that its revised data showed that GDP contracted by 0.1% in the fourth quarter of 2018 and in the first and second quarters of 2019, while growth in the third quarter was flat (0%). While President López Obrador wasn’t willing to offer a figure as to this growth forecast, he said that should the US–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) be approved this week, a presentation of economic strategy for 2020 will take place before year end. The deal is set to be voted on in the US House of Representatives today (19 December).
