* The Instituto Aço Brasil, Brazil’s steel industry association, has released production figures for 2019 which confirm earlier predictions of a disappointing year. The country’s steel production fell by 9% last year compared with 2018. Production of raw steel totalled 32.2m tonnes (t). Internal sales of steel products totalled 18.5m t in 2019, down 2.2% on the previous year. Imports of steel products fell 1.9% to 2.4m t, while the volume of exports fell 8.1% to 12.8m, with their value decreasing 17.5% to a total US$7.3bn.
