In brief: Argentina records a trade surplus in 2019

* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest report on the country’s trade flows, which shows that Argentina recorded a US$15.99bn trade surplus in 2019 thanks to a sharp fall in imports. Trade flows decreased 10.2% in 2019 to a total US$114.24bn, with the value of imports falling 25% to US$49.125bn, while the value of exports increased 5.4% to US$65.115bn. Argentina recorded a trade surplus with four of its eight principal trading partners: Brazil, Chile, Vietnam, and India. Brazil, China, and the US are Argentina’s top trade partners, with trade flows with each totalling US$20.545bn, US$16.325bn and US$10.378bn, respectively.
