In brief: Boeing-Embraer merger can go ahead in Brazil

* Brazil’s anti-trust regulator (Cade) has approved the merger deal that was reached in December 2018 between US plane maker Boeing and Brazilian aerospace company Embraer, ruling that the two companies do not compete in the same market and that Boeing’s acquisition of Embraer will therefore not cause competition problems. According to the deal reached between the two companies, Boeing will acquire an 80% stake in Embraer’s commercial aviation operations. The companies have also agreed to a second joint venture, in which Boeing will have a 49% stake and Embraer, 51%, which will focus on the production of the KC-390 military cargo plane.
