Indigenous violence on the rise

Jair Bolsonaro has completed his first year as president of Brazil claiming success on the public security front, an assertion based largely on falling crime rates. Certain specific forms of violence have, however, increased. This is the case with attacks against Brazil’s indigenous peoples, notably in the Amazon, a problem that is intertwined with environmental issues and illegal economic activities on protected territories.
