In brief: Remittances reach record levels in Colombia

* Colombia’s central bank (Banrep) has announced that remittances rose by 7.1% in 2019, as Colombians living abroad sent back a total of Col$22.2trn (US$6.77bn), setting a national record for the fourth consecutive year. The national statistics institute (Dane) emphasised that remittances increased above the rate of inflation, and reported that recipients enjoyed a 14.5% boost in real terms purchasing power.
