In brief: Industrial production in Mexico down in 2019

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released figures which show industrial production was down 1.8% in 2019 compared with the previous year. According to Inegi’s preliminary estimates, Mexico’s national GDP fell 0.1% in 2019, contrasting with a 2.1% rise in 2018. Private sector analysts consulted by Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) are forecasting GDP growth of 1% for 2020, down from 1.1% in their previous (December 2019) forecast, according to a Banxico report released on 4 February.
