PERU | Sendero Luminoso leader claimed dead. The Peruvian army claims to have killed Juan Laguna Domí­nguez ('Piero' or 'Lee'), presented as the second-in-command of the faction of the Sendero Luminoso (SL) guerrillas that operates in the Huallaga valley under the leadership of 'Camarada Artemio'. He was ambushed by an army special forces unit on 19 May as he arrived with his bodyguards at Huamalí­es, Huánuco, reportedly to attend a birthday party.
