In brief: Mexican peso suffers depreciation

* The Mexican peso has depreciated against the US dollar, closing the day above M$20/US$1 on 6 March, its lowest value in 15 months. By 8 March, the Mexican peso had fallen further to M$21.55/US$1. This reflects a global trend of weakening emerging market currencies against the US dollar, principally driven by continued uncertainties over the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. Similarly, the index for the Mexican stock exchange (BMV) fell 2.26% on 6 March.
