* The Costa Rican government, led by President
Carlos Alvarado, has moved through the penultimate hoop in its quest for full membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The OECD Working Group on Bribery in International Business Transactions has approved the country following an exhaustive assessment of its anti-bribery framework, that began in 2017. Costa Rica has now passed 21 of the 22 in-depth reviews by OECD committees necessary to join the other 35 OECD member countries. In Latin America, only Chile and Mexico have full membership, although Colombia is expecting to join once it has ratified the OECD Convention.
