HONDURAS: Prison massacres revive overcrowding issue

Two successive prison massacres in Honduras within the span of a single week have revived concern about a problem that appears to defeat all attempts at solutions: the severe overcrowding of the country's prisons. This is due to a longstanding problem, namely, the slowness with which the Honduran judiciary brings inmates to trial, aggravated in recent years by the large-scale arrests of street gang members.
