* The Central American bank for economic integration (BCIE) has announced an US$8m donation for eight Central American countries (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic) to address the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19). This is the biggest donation authorised by the BCIE in its 60-year history. The resources can be used for any of the following aims: the purchase of medicines and medical supplies and strengthening health care systems; purchase of food and drinking water as well as other basic goods for those affected; and financing campaigns and actions related to the pandemic, among other things. So far Panama has registered the highest number of Covid-19 cases (69) in the sub-region followed by Costa Rica (41), the DR (21), Honduras (eight) and Guatemala (six).
