In brief: Devaluation of Brazilian real uncontained by central bank

* The Brazilian real reached yet another record low against the US dollar last week, closing at R$5.326/US$1 on 3 April. This devaluation, following a slight recovery of the real on 2 April, came despite actions from the central bank (BCB), which sold US$455m of its international reserves on the swap market on 3 April. Overall, the US dollar strengthened 4.38% against the real last week.
