Alberto Carrasquilla has told the country’s congress that the government has submitted a request to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a US$11bn emergency loan, to help tackle the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the related economic challenges. Carrasquilla reported that the government has already added a total of Col$18.3trn (US$4.6bn) to the annual budget (which now totals Col$290trn) in response to the emergency, but said that the approval of IMF funding will allow further action to be taken.
