When troubles come

As if Ecuador’s economic problems as it prepares to confront the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic were not challenging enough already, the country has been compelled to halt oil exports. This after two separate incidents: two oil pipelines ruptured, spilling at least 4,000 barrels of crude into the River Coca in eastern Ecuador, and a power outage triggered a serious problem at the country’s largest oil refinery, putting it out of action.
