Robert Lighthizer had spoken by telephone with Brazil’s foreign minister
Ernesto Araújo and “
several other senior Brazilian officials”. According to the USTR statement, the call was a follow-up to last month’s meeting between US President
Donald Trump and Brazil’s President
Jair Bolsonaro in Florida. The statement also noted that Lighthizer and Araújo discussed how to implement the plan proposed by the presidents to intensify the two countries’ economic partnership. They agreed to increase and deepen discussions under the auspices of the Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation (Atec).
