In brief: CAF announces new loans for Argentina

* The Latin American Development Bank (CAF) has announced plans to approve US$4bn in credit for Argentina over the next four years, in part to address the social and economic impacts of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The announcement was made during a video conference with Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández and CAF executive director Luis Carranza Ugarte. According to a CAF press release, the bank is expecting to approve around US$900m this year, which will fund infrastructure projects, and include two lines of rapid credit - one, for US$40m, to address the impact of the health emergency in the provinces, and the other, for US$300m, to promote social programmes to benefit the most vulnerable.
