CHILE: From new normality to Battle of Santiago

Just days after President Sebastián Piñera announced a phased return to a “new normality” in Chile, to avert an economic crisis, a spike in coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in the metropolitan region of Santiago has compelled his government to tighten rather than loosen restrictions. This underscores the difficulty facing all governments in striking a balance between sustaining the economy and suppressing the virus.
