Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced that it will include automobile, mining, and construction industries in its list of essential services that are allowed to operate during the public health emergency declared to deal with the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The announcment comes after weeks of lobbying from Mexico’s industrial sector for these industries to reopen in order to maintain supply chains with the US. The sectors, which have been affected by the shutdown of non-essential businesses as part of efforts to contain Covid-19, will begin reopening from 18 May.
