BRAZIL: Another health casualty as uncertainty reigns

“The health ministry is today a directionless ship,” former health minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta, who was fired by President Jair Bolsonaro on 16 April, told Brazilian daily Folha de São Paulo on 18 May. Mandetta’s successor Nelson Teich had resigned three days earlier. This indictment could be extended to Brazil as a whole as the Bolsonaro government continues to fail to present a coherent national response to the coronavirus (Covid-19), while the country’s fast-growing infection curve shows no sign of slowing.
