Uruguay has so far avoided the worst of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, with infection and fatality rates remaining relatively low. But the ‘great lockdown’ has nevertheless triggered a recession and prospects for tourism – a key economic sector – have been dealt a possibly long-lasting blow. Industry stakeholders are nevertheless trying to fight back.
