BOLIVIA: Áñez yields to election demands

After two weeks of resistance, on 23 June Bolivia’s interim president Jeanine Áñez finally promulgated the bill establishing 6 September as the rescheduled date for the country’s general election. Unlike previous attempts by the legislative assembly (controlled by the left-wing opposition Movimiento al Socialismo, MAS) to set a date, the support of Bolivia’s electoral tribunal (TSE) for its latest proposal left Áñez with little room for manoeuvre on this occasion.
