* Peru’s association of exporters (Adex) has reported that national exports totalled US$1.93bn in May, down 46.1% compared with the same month last year. Adex president,
Erik Fischer, emphasised that this represented an improvement on the US$1.8bn export value recorded in April, and suggested that the recovery from the economic effects of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has begun. However, Fischer acknowledged that this looks set to be a slow process, and noted that Adex had expected a more substantial improvement in May. Significant year-on-year declines were recorded in mining exports (down 23.7%), agriculture (down 31.2%), hydrocarbons (down 46.8%), and fishing (down 55.9%).
