In brief: Panama’s gov’t reports drop in income

* Panama’s economy & finance ministry (MEF) has reported that central government income reached US$2.23bn in the first six months of 2020, a 34.1% drop on the same period in 2019, a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. According to the MEF report, central government income for the first half of 2020 was 38.3% less than the expected amount. The report points out that the month to have registered the highest decline was June, when US$308m was collected, a drop of 63.5% on the same month in 2019.
