* Panama’s economy & finance ministry (MEF) has secured a US$400m loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for budgetary support due to the fall in central government income as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The announcement of the new loan follows reports by the MEF that central government income totalled US$2.23bn in the first six months of 2020, a 34.1% drop on the same period in 2019. According to the MEF report, central government income for the first half of 2020 was 38.3% less than originally expected.
