Jair Bolsonaro has signed a decree determining that Viracopos International Airport, situated in the municipality of Campinas, São Paulo state, be re-auctioned. The financially troubled airport has been privately operated since 2012, by the concessionaire Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos (ABV – controlled by holdings company Triunfo), which filed for bankruptcy protection in 2018. A debt restructuring plan involving the re-auctioning of the airport complex was approved by Brazilian authorities in February this year. According to the decree, dated 16 July and published in the 17 July edition of the official gazette, the infrastructure ministry will submit to the government’s investments partnership programme (PPI) the possibility of Viracopos airport’s debts being transferred to a new operator within 90 days of the publication of the decree.
