In brief: Finance minister downbeat on Mexico’s economic recovery

* Mexico’s finance minister Arturo Herrera has indicated that the country’s economic recovery will take longer than expected. At a virtual meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of G20 countries, Herrera said the rate of Mexico’s economic recovery will depend on the evolution of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and that “while there is no vaccine or effective treatment” this will take “a longer time” than originally foreseen by the international community. “Economic policy, particularly fiscal and financial policy, will have to adjust to the new reality,” he stressed, according to a statement published by the finance ministry.
