In brief: EU approves funds to help Honduras combat Covid-19

* The European Union (EU) has announced €80m (US$93m) in funds to help Honduras combat the humanitarian, health, social, and economic consequences stemming from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Through the #EquipoEuropa initiative, efforts will focus on health, early recovery, economic measures, jobs, and human rights. The EU delegation in Honduras – along with the German, Spanish, and French embassies, and the Honduran government  - have announced the planning of several rapid and sustainable actions to allow a quick recovery. These include support for small-scale production, the commercialisation of family farming, the creation of jobs, accelerated payments for the purchase of hospital equipment, the application of measures to maintain employment in small and medium-size businesses, and support for the private sector.
