Good FDI results give hope. On 10 August InvestChile, the government agency responsible for promoting Chile on the global market, reported that foreign direct investment (FDI) flows to the country were up by 53% in the first half of 2020, compared with the same period last year. Citing preliminary figures from Chile’s central bank (BCCh), InvestChile noted that FDI inflows totalled US$9.8bn in January-June 2020, the second highest figure for this period since current records began and 64% higher than the average of FDI inflows for this period over the past five years. In June alone, FDI totalled US$2.1bn.
