* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has published figures showing that economic activity in June fell by 12.3% compared with the same month in 2019, but rose by 7.4% compared with May 2020. The year-on-year figure for June represents an improvement on contractions of 20.5% in May and 26% in April. The report said that the turnaround correlates entirely with a loosening of quarantine restrictions, particularly in industry and commerce in the provinces less affected by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. In June, Indec recorded year-on-year gains in financial intermediation (4.8%), and electricity, gas, and water (3.6%), while among the worst-affected sectors were construction (-41.9%), fishing (-53.6%), and hotels and restaurants (-62.7%).
