* Colombia’s President
Iván Duque has announced that the country will enter a new stage of economic reactivation in September, moving from
“mandatory isolation” to
“selective isolation”, under which restrictions against the coronavirus (Covid-19) will be loosened in areas with lower infection rates. The exact details of what will be allowed are yet to be confirmed, but Duque noted that restaurants and non-essential shops will be able to reopen, with a reduced capacity. In Bogotá- which has reportedly seen over one-third of Colombia’s 551,696 coronavirus cases (as of 24 August)- the
strict quarantine measures imposed on 13 July will be relaxed on 26 August, four days ahead of schedule, as the spread of infection has slowed considerably in the national capital.
