Herrera tables austere budget. The finance minister, Arturo Herrera, presented the 2021 budget to the lower chamber of congress on 8 September. Herrera said the budget proposal was designed to combat “two simultaneous crises: health and economic”. Herrera was keen to stress that the health budget would be bumped up by 9.2% in real terms on the 2020 budget to strengthen the health system in the face of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Spending and infrastructure investment would also get a 5.3% boost to try and drive an economic recovery.
