In brief: Ecuador introduces new VAT rules on imported digital services

* Ecuador’s tax authority (SRI), has begun enforcing new rules to the internal tax regime law (ITRL) introduced on 31 December 2019 which establish that imported digital services will be subject to a 12% value-added tax (VAT). According to SRI, this new measure only applies to “digital services provided by non-residents of Ecuador”, or foreign companies, and “services of supply of web page domains, servers (hosting) and cloud computing” as well as “free digital services” will be exempt.
