POINTERS

MEXICO-US | La Familia hit on both sides of the border. On 22-23 October in the US, more than 3,000 agents of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plus officers of state and local police forces spread out across 38 cities in 19 states, in the largest-ever drive against a Mexican drug cartel north of the border. The operation was conducted under Project Coronado, a campaign launched just under four years ago. The target: La Familia Michoacana (LFM), the newest of Mexico's cartels and the leader of a fast-growing new line of drug production and smuggling.
