presidential elections, both sides in the Honduran political crisis reached
agreement, if not on a solution, at least on the mechanism whereby a solution
acceptable to both will be reached. The breakthrough was achieved under
considerable pressure from a visiting top-level US mission led by the outgoing
US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Tom Shannon. The
