HONDURAS: Both sides agree on mechanism for a solution

Precisely one month before the scheduled presidential elections, both sides in the Honduran political crisis reached agreement, if not on a solution, at least on the mechanism whereby a solution acceptable to both will be reached. The breakthrough was achieved under considerable pressure from a visiting top-level US mission led by the outgoing US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Tom Shannon. The deal allows not only both Honduran protagonists but also the involved international actors, to save face.
