ECUADOR: Further uncertainty in electoral preparations
Ecuador’s electoral council (CNE) issued its official call for elections on 17 September, confirming that voting will take place on 7 February 2021. In practice, the contest was already well underway, with the field of candidates narrowing significantly even before the final registration process began on 18 September [WR-20-36]. However, with less than five months to go until the vote, there is still much to be resolved, and the chaos caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic looks set to leave its mark on this campaign.
