Changing the paradigm (but gradually)

After six months in office, Uruguay’s centre-right government of President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou has submitted a five-year budget for approval by the legislature. The main novelties are the imposition of tighter spending controls and an attempt to create greater space for private sector-led growth. But there is also a lot of Uruguay’s traditional ‘gradualism’ in the proposed 2020-2025 economic adjustment.
