* Economic think-tank Fedesarrollo has updated its indices of commercial confidence (Icco) and industrial confidence (ICI) based on the results of its August survey of businesses in Colombia. The Icco figure reached 13.8% in August, up from 7.1% in July, from a low of -30.8% in March as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic – although confidence remains some way off the 32.3% figure recorded in January, pre-pandemic. The ICI tells a similar story, with industrial confidence leaving negative territory in August (1.5%) for the first time since plunging to -35.8% in March, but again falling short of the 12.2% registered in January. Fedesarrollo’s executive director,
Luis Fernando Mejía, attributed this improvement to
“expectations for the economic situation in the next quarter”, noting that increased economic activity and the provision of emergency government support had improved prospects for businesses.
