* The Central American bank for economic integration (BCIE) has approved an extension of a credit line to Honduran bank Banco Financiera Centroamericana SA (Banco Ficensa), with an increase of US$9.2m, to reach a total amount of US$36m. According to a BCIE press release, the availability of these resources will make it possible to finance operations within the framework of BCIE’s financial intermediation programmes with emphasis on productive sectors and foreign trade. The press release cites BCIE’s president
Dante Mossi as saying
“the investment sector to which Ficensa makes these resources available is remarkable. Due to the international situation, they will be promoting actions in productive and commercial areas specifically for this great employer, as is the case with the Mipyme [Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises]”. The press release estimates that the implementation of these resources will benefit 89 additional legal entities, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 616. Each legal entity has an average of 133 jobs, which will benefit more than 80,000 people. The intervention would contribute to maintaining 279 current permanent jobs.
